This past week I had the privilege of celebrating military spouses in Washington D.C. I attended several events leading up to the huge USO Gala in which the “Military Spouse Of The Year” award is given.
I never know how to dress for these things because I work from home. My daily wardrobe consists of pajamas, so anything that requires business professional or black tie is literally out of my league.
The Military Spouse Townhall- Business Casual
This conference was held at the Bolling AFB Officer’s Club in Washington D.C. and the dress attire was business casual. As a blogger, I feel it’s important to remain true to my lifestyle. I love the freedom of not conforming to a dress code and so I was determined to respect the ask without wearing something I knew I wouldn’t be comfortable in.
Two of my signatures is brown boots ( I don’t go by trends) and black form-fitting Ponte pants, so I knew I wanted to incorporate those. I had also just signed up for my first Stitch Fix Box in which you submit some criteria about yourself and a stylist actually creates a box of handpicked fashions selected just for you. I’ll review my next Stitch Fix box for you but here’s what I wore.
What I Wore
$88 Kensie – Blue Trisha Notch Collar Blazer 3x from Stitch Fix – I got a ton of compliments on this blazer and I can see why. It’s an odd blue that can be worn year round, it has a nice stretch without being shapeless and falls nicely. I also loved the 3/4 sleeve roll-up which is good for keeping cool.
$56 41 Hawthorn – Astrid Tie Neck Blouse 3x from Stitch Fix– Initially this blouse reminded me of one of those 1980’s maternity blouses. However, the quality was so comfy that I decided to wear. Plus, I loved the way it flowed on me.
Brown Wide Width Boots from Payless $19.99 (purchased on sale—were originally $49.99)- I have small feet and ankles but leg wise I always have to purchase a boot that gives me room. In this case, I always look for wide width boots. This allows even us fluffier girls to rock the knee-high boot look. Oh and I don’t care that its spring, I still like my boots!
The USO Metro Gala
This gala is a big deal and of course, attire requested was formal. I was freaking out because I have a torn ACL which I refuse to get fixed and wearing heels for me is just drama. However, I’m short and not wearing a heel just makes me look a bit short and frumpy especially at an event like that. I was determined to wear a heel so I read tons of reviews and finally found an awesome strappy thick heel. I knew I wanted a flowy dress but since I don’t like to wear my arms out I opted for a maxi style that was simple and classic on top and dramatic on the bottom.
What I Wore
GRAPENT Women’s Plus Size Sequin 3/4 Sleeves Evening Gown Party Long Maxi Dress Beige Pink Size 22W– This fit amazingly and gave me just the right amount of sparkle to comfortably wear at a black-tie event. The sparkle from the rose gold sequins stood out a lot so I simply paired with faux diamond earrings. I am small chested so it fit perfectly in the bust area, but I’m not so sure I would recommend this dress if you have a large bust size. All of this came from Amazon. $51.99
Premier Standard Women’s Comfort High Heel Sandal – One Band Open Toe Ankle Strap Sexy Dress Chunky Block Heel – Stiletto Sandals – These are comfortable, but they do run small. You will need to order a size up. I loved the ease of getting them on and off since the strap is velcro. This will avoid the struggle of trying to buckle a shoe. $26.99
